Entrepreneurial Observation: Left and Right Brain Balance
/It is not an uncommon thought that becoming an entrepreneur is an ideal career to have. Many individuals dream of owning their own business, witnessing their ideas and hard work come to fruition with the success of their undertakings. Having said that, it takes initiative and a committed, proactive pursuit of balanced observation to truly embrace an entrepreneurial perspective.
What I am referring to is left and right brain balance. In regards to the traditional mindset and opinion of the characteristics that make up a successful entrepreneur, many individuals agreed that it was a left-brain thinker - someone who is likely logical, attentive, detail-focused, with a special capability to solve problems. However, with the changes in time and transition from this traditional way of thinking, many today have argued the contrary - that a successful entrepreneur is likely one that is right brain dominant. The right brain dominant individual, as opposed to the left brain dominant individual, has a special capacity to excel in creativity, visualization, expression, collaboration, and emotional intelligence. Perhaps it is true that the entrepreneurial market today requires excellence in these capacities. However, it can also be argued that the characteristics of a left brain thinker are essential for purposes of management, organization, and problem solving.
The answer to which individual - the right or left brain thinker - is more equipped cannot, in fact, be answered with either one or the other. The answer is a combination of the two, a balance, if you will. It is extremely essential that an entrepreneur have both hard and soft skills that characteristically come along with either type of brain-dominant individual.
The next question to answer is why this balance is so necessary and so beneficial. Because of the vast number of situations in which entrepreneurs are required to utilize technology, practice organization, and partake in significant, purposeful communication, there is a high level of emotional intelligence that is essential and that can come into play, helping the entrepreneur along in successful business practices. The individual that finds more ease in regards to these functions are the right brain thinkers. In addition to these likely tasks, entrepreneurs may also be required to solve problems and effectively pursue and expand their knowledge in order to successfully manage their business operations. The individual that is likely to do this more effectively is the left brain thinker.
Having said that, because each of these tasks are not uncommon to the daily demands of an entrepreneur, that individual that is likely to find more success is the individual who has discovered a balance of both right brain and left brain thinking. Someone that knows how to observe and innovate, from both the logical, left brain perspective and the creative, right brain perspective has the potential to be unstoppable in their entrepreneurial pursuits.
